Incheon City Party of Justice Party Announces Results of 'Actual Survey on Online Platform Use in Alleyway Commercial Areas'
Small and medium-sized merchants in Incheon, “Sales increase through delivery apps is insufficient after Corona, while net profit is rather decreasing”
-Break News Incheon Reporter Park Sang-do

The Incheon City Party of the Justice Party conducted a “research on the use of online platforms in alleyways” by directly visiting 65 stores operating in the Incheon area using delivery apps for a month from the 21st of last month.

While merchants in Incheon are experiencing difficulties due to the aftermath of COVID-19, they are using delivery apps to increase sales through non-face-to-face, but the increase in sales is not much, but rather a decrease in net profit.

According to the results of the survey, a significant number of self-employed people who use delivery order apps are using private delivery apps, including Baedal Minjok, and only 8% of them use public delivery apps.

Specifically, Baedal ethnic groups accounted for the most at 35%, followed by Yogiyo at 26% and Coupang Eats at 24%.

However, merchants were mostly using two or more, rather than using only a specific delivery order application.

Only 18% of companies using only one delivery order application accounted for 21% of two, 40% of three, 15% of four, and 6% of five or more. The reasons for using the app were found to be 'it is burdensome but helpful for sales (68%)' and 'consumers use various apps (24%)'.

Merchants were using two or more delivery order apps to increase sales even if it was a burden, but in reality, the effect was not so great.

Compared to before the third corona epidemic began, when asked whether sales increased after using delivery-related apps, only 35% of merchants answered that they increased (30% to some extent, 5% to very much), and the remaining 62% They answered that it was similar or decreased. (Sales same 22%, somewhat decreased 21%, very decreased 19%)

On the other hand, only 18% of respondents answered that net revenue, not sales, increased to some extent, while the remaining 77% said that it was similar or decreased (the same 31% of net revenue, 27% of decrease, 19% of very decrease).

In the end, it showed that using the current delivery app is a means to be taken in the current situation rather than for the purpose of increasing sales and operating profits.

In addition, merchants tried changes to fit the system, such as changing the price for an item (58%) or changing the menu (27%) while using the delivery app, and while using the delivery app in addition to the existing advertisement, It was found that additional costs such as advertising expenses were incurred.

In addition, it was found that improvement is urgently needed, as 61% of merchants said that they had suffered damage from star rating terrorism and malicious reviews, and 86% said that reviews affect sales.

Lastly, as for the improvements to the delivery app, the improvement of excessive advertising costs and delivery fees (48%), the abolition of excessive flag competition (13%), and improvement of malicious reviews and star terrorism (13%) were found.

Regarding the results of this fact-finding survey, Incheon City Party Chairman Moon Young-mi said, “The purpose of the survey is to identify changes in alleyways and the actual use of delivery apps after Corona 19, and improve the unfairness that occurs in the process of using delivery apps based on the results of the survey. “Based on this fact-finding survey, the 「Act on the Fairness of Online Platform Brokerage Transactions」 proposed by Bae Jin-gyo, floor leader of the Justice Party on March 9, was promptly enacted and unfair trade I hope that it will lay the groundwork for resolving the problem.”
