Incheon City (Mayor Jeong-bok Yoo) operates a mosquito-borne monitoring system around dengue and Zika virus infection patients from July to October when the mosquito population increases in order to prevent domestic transmission and localization of foreign mosquito-borne infectious diseases.

When a patient develops, 6 points within a 200m radius around the place of residence or workplace will be selected, and mosquito vectors will be collected for 3 weeks (twice a week) from the onset of symptoms, followed by species classification and identification, and then tested for pathogens.

The Institute for Health and Environment started the pilot operation of the monitoring system around patients with overseas mosquito-borne infectious diseases (Bupyeong-gu), which was conducted in conjunction with the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2018, and expanded to all areas of Incheon from 2019 to implement the entire monitoring system, from patient occurrence to pathogen identification. are doing

Although there have been no cases of domestic outbreaks so far, there has been a short-term outbreak due to person-to-veter transmission, such as the 2014 Yoyogi Park dengue cluster infection in Japan. is needed

In addition, the Institute of Health and Environment has been operating the environmental monitoring system around the airport since 2009 to block the inflow of infectious disease vectors through airports and ports along with patient management. is in progress

“As overseas travel resumes, we will do our best to systematically monitor and block domestic transmission through the overseas transmission vector infectious disease monitoring project in order to prepare for an increase in the influx of mosquito-borne infectious diseases into Korea,” said Kwon Moon-ju, head of the Incheon Research Institute for Health and Environment.
