(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 수도권매립지관리공사(이하 공사)가 28일,  환경부 주관 ‘2024년 전국 폐기물처리시설 운영실태 평가’에서 ‘매립시설’과 ‘유기성폐자원시설’ 부문에서 각각 전국 최우수시설로 선정돼 환경부장관상을 수상했다고 밝혔다. 

공사에 따르면, ‘매립시설’ 부문에서 2년 연속 1위로 선정된 ‘제3-1매립장’은 친환경 위생매립 방법으로 폐기물을 처리하여 주변 지역 환경오염을 차단하고 매립가스를 포집해 전기로 생산하는 운영·관리 기술을 고도화하여 전력 생산량을 증대시킴으로써 환경성과 경제성 항목에서 높은 평가를 받았다.

또한, ‘유기성폐자원 바이오가스화시설’ 부문 1위로 선정된 ‘광역음폐수바이오가스화시설’은 음식물폐수를 처리하는 과정에서 발생한 바이오가스를 공사 운영 시설의 열원 등으로 활용하여 연간 약 31억원의 예산을 절감해 높은 점수를 얻었다.

공사는 연이은 수상을 통해 재생에너지 확대와 폐기물처리시설 운영기술력을 대외적으로 인정받아 명실상부한 자원순환 국가 공사로서의 전문적인 역량을 재차 입증했다.

송병억 사장은 “세계 각국에서는 수도권매립지를 벤치마킹하기 위해 많은 관심을 갖고 있다”며 “앞으로도 수도권매립지를 효율적이고 친환경적으로 운영하여 탄소중립 실현과 ESG 경영가치를 확산해 나가기 위해 노력하겠다”고 말했다. 

한편, ‘폐기물처리시설 운영실태 평가’는 환경부가 폐기물처리시설의 효율성과 체계성을 높이기 위해 2015년부터 매년 시행하고 있다. 

2024년도에는 전국 642개 시설을 소각·매립·생활자원·음식물·가연성·유기성시설의 6개 분야로 구분해 환경성·기술성·경제성·안전성·거버넌스 등 5개 항목 94개 세부 평가지표를 기준으로 평가됐다.
