(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 수도권매립지관리공사(이하 공사)가 최근 광주환경공단(이하 공단)과 공단 본사에서 ‘매립가스 관리 및 국가 온실가스감축목표(NDC) 달성을 위한 업무협약(MOU)’을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 

공사에 따르면, 이번 협약은 공사가 자체 개발한 간이소각기 자동 개폐 및 모니터링 시스템의 전국 지자체 확대 적용을 위한 일환으로, 광주광역시 위생매립장에 본 시스템을 시범 도입·운영하기 위한 협력 체계를 구축하기 위해 마련됐다.

이번 시범 연구사업은 매립시설에서 발생하는 메탄가스를 효율적으로 계측‧관리함으로 국가 온실가스감축목표(NDC) 달성에 기여하고자 하는 것이 핵심이다.

앞서 공사는 여수시 매립장 시범 적용을 시작으로 타 지자체와의 협의를 통해 기술 확대를 모색해 왔으며, 이번 협약으로 광주 지역까지 협력 범위를 넓히게 되었다.

협약에 따라 양 기관은 매립가스 관리 관련 정보 공유, 온실가스 감축 기술 및 설비지원, 기타 상호협력이 필요한 사항 등을 중심으로 긴밀히 협조해 나갈 예정이다.

공사와 공단은 이번 협약을 통해 매립가스 관리 기술을 현장에 적용하고, 온실가스 감축 체계를 함께 구축함으로써 국가 온실가스 감축목표(NDC) 달성에 실질적으로 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

송병억 공사 사장은 “이번 업무협약은 공사가 개발한 기술을 전국으로 확산하는 데 중요한 전환점이 될 것”이라며, “지자체와의 협력 체계를 더욱 강화해 국가 온실가스 감축목표 달성에 기여할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 이번 행사는 공사와 공단 주요 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 진행됐으며, 기관장 간 면담과 기술협력 논의도 함께 이뤄졌다.
